Day 76 - Nordkapp!!!

14th June 2018

Woke to the sunniest, warmest, calmest day for weeks!  Beautiful ride along the coast to the Nordkapp tunnel connecting the mainland to the island of Mageroya.  Then through the 7km tunnel, descending then ascending 230m at 9%.  Finally, a very hilly ride across the island before Norway finally runs out of road and we are here!!!

Here are a few stats for the numerically orientated: -

Total distance 4144 miles
Total climbing 62394 metres
Riding time     275 hours
Calories         146989

It has been a fantastic experience and it is going to be difficult to get back to normal living.  There have been so many highlights but, for me, the best part has been the fact that this trip has been a joint effort with Jacqui, we have worked so well together.

Thank you to everyone who has posted comments or sent us messages (sorry the comments section has been unusable for some of you).  It has been lovely to have that support.

Finally, we can recommend a bottle of Bollinger champagne at the Nordkapp visitor centre!

    1. Thank you Helen. The riding songs are for when I am well out of earshot. After all Jacqui has done these past few weeks I could hardly inflict my random riding songs on her!

  4. Formidable ! It doesn't seem two minutes since you were setting off from southern Spain. Did you arrive earlier than you expected? Impressive stats - and how much does a bottle of Bollinger cost in Nordkapp?!? Not that it matters of course. Anyway, many congratulations to both of you. J&T xx

    1. Thank you J & T. When we set off I thought we would need at least 60 riding days. I calculated on 2 rest days per week, so 12 weeks. In the end it was 60 riding days but fewer rest days.
Re Bollinger at Nordkapp - quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten!!!

    1. Thank you Sally and Nick. We took on board everything you had told us about Nordkapp. I cycled through for free. Jacqui paid the 275 NK which I think is very good for 24 hours of campervan parking and access to the site. After a great day, we too encountered buffeting winds in the night and did a runner at 4.30am!
