Danish tarmac

7th May 2018

Another warm, cloudless day with a southerly wind to blow me along.  Northern Germany was pretty much as it has been for the past 3 days, fairly flat, Frisian cows grazing peacefully, neat and tidy houses, and oh so bumpy cycle lanes.  About half way through today's ride we entered Denmark and suddenly I was riding on this...

This is not a road, that's over on the right, it is a cycle lane!  We are in Carlsberg country and they must have had a hand in making Denmark's cycle lanes.  Billiard table smooth tarmac, how grateful was my rear end!  Soon after the lane took a short detour through the small town of Tondor...

Is it any wonder the Danes are the happiest people on the planet?

As planned, tonight we are camped just outside the town of Ribe.  Another rest day tomorrow to explore.  We'll check whether it is really Europe's most beautiful town, which I always thought was Bolsover.
