Day 37 - We're at the seaside, 3 cheers to Vlad

6th May 2018

Today's ride started with a ferry trip across the River Elbe, it was the easiest 3 miles of the trip so far!  The alternative to this crossing would have involved a detour to the centre of Hamburg, it was an easy decision.

Another rural day and generally pretty flat (apart from the River Elbe in the above pics).  There were a few lumps.  At one point I was making heavy going of things and bemoaning my feeble legs, on checking the gradient it showed I was climbing an 8% hill which made me feel a lot better.

Jacqui and Ivan had another satnav adventure being told they had arrived at their destination which happened to be in the middle of nowhere.  The solution was to put the destination in again after which they were told they had another 18km to go.

We are now near a beautiful small town called Husum at Camping Seeblick.  It is on the North Sea.  I imagine it could be fairly bleak but with the current weather it is a very pleasant spot.  As I type a skylark is singing it's heart out and there is the frequent call of curlews.  The view below is taken sat outside Ivan beneath the awning.

For the past 3 days I have been riding my gravel bike, Vlad (He's very black with the odd bit of red).  A gravel bike can function very well as a road bike but has fatter tyres with extra reinforcing.  They also have a slightly more upright riding position.  We have had some pretty rough tracks to contend with and Vlad has been in his element.

Tomorrow we are heading to Ribe, the oldest town in....DENMARK, SCANDINAVIA!!!
