Day 47 - Norway!

16th May 2018

Tonight we are 12 miles south of Oslo.  Our friend, Dermot, has pointed out that Oslo to Nordkapp is the same distance as Oslo to Rome which puts things into perspective.  Thank you for that Dermot!

Last night's site, Stromstad Camping, was very impressive, set around big lumps of granite.  Jacqui snapped this video of my departure this morning.

Today's ride involved quite a lot of urban and main road riding but there were some scenic interludes including the border between Sweden and Norway which was on a bridge crossing the Ringdalsfjorden.

Riding along a gravel track I found myself beside a huge, raging torrent (not an exaggeration).  I had come to the River Glomma, Norway's largest river.  The water flow is controlled and someone had obviously turned the tap on.

Jacqui got herself pulled over by customs on the border and had a conversation with the border guard who told her he didn't need to see her passport because she was so nice!  What a flirt!!

Route planning was a bit complicated today with no suitable campsite on our route.  We eventually located a car park which we hoped would work out ok.

It definitely worked for me and even Jacqui went for a swim!

  1. Haha! She’ll be contacted by all sorts of drug barons now to aid and abet.

  2. We've never been in Gothenberg when the sun was shining. Pity we didn't tell Katy and Nigel that you'd be passing through. Nigel is a keen cyclist. He might even have helped you avoid the cinder track. The sun is shining in Chezzers. Happy cycling, B&F

  3. Thanks B&F. We are certainly being very lucky with the weather and looks set to continue!
