Day 48 - Route planning woes, Norway's National Day and another car park
17th May 2018
The problems posed by dodgy weather, including a strong north easterly wind, lack of campsites and our next planned campsite appearing to have permanently closed, along with poor phone signal, are too long and tedious to detail. Enough to say that, at times, it felt like the Oslo conurbation was determined not to let us pass! Eventually we decided on a short 17 mile hop to another car park located in an area of woods and lakes on the eastern edge of the city. As it happened it was Norway's National day, celebrating the establishment of the constitution on 17th May 1814. It is a massive day in Norway, crowds pour into Oslo and the King and Queen make an appearance. Everyone takes to the streets in national dress. You wear the dress from where you originated from so there is a mixture of clothing on show. There is a focus on children with all the school bands marching through the streets. This is all delightful and it was very nice to see everyone having a great time. Not the easiest of times to be riding through Oslo however. Glad we chose not to visit the centre of Oslo!
