Day 55 - Trondheim, Three Thousand Miles and a Big Decision

24th May 2018

First of all, an update.  The Meldal Ski Jump Committee closed business at 10.30pm and went on their way without disturbing us.  Three cheers for the committee!

Today's ride was a relatively short affair taking us to a lovely campsite, Flakk Camping, just west of Trondheim.  Another pretty route, especially the valley around Meldal but the highlight of the day was arriving at the Norwegian Sea which coincided with the ride reaching the three thousand mile mark.

The Big Decision!

The most direct route to Nordkapp is along the E6.  This is a busy road along the lines of the UK's A1.  It gets quieter the further north you go but, down here, it isn't a nice road to ride on.  Out west is the FV17, better known in these parts as the Kystriksveien, hopefully easier to ride than to say.  This is an island hopping coastal route which has been described as "The World's most beautiful journey".  The National Geographic has it in it's top 101 of the World's most scenic routes.  The only downside is that it involves a lot of ferries, however, these non pedal powered stretches generally aren't in the direction of Nordkapp and the overall mileage is actually greater so, we are heading for the islands!

  3. Good choice Martin and Jacqui. You can spend the rest of your life cycling on busy A roads around Chesterfield if you want to. Love the scenery and the lack of traffic on most of the roads. .... and it's only going to get even quieter as you continue north. Peter Bolt
