Day 57 - Onto the Kystriksveien and brown bears

26th May 2018

A 20 minute ferry journey (free for foot passengers and cyclists) took me across the fjord and into a lovely quiet valley which continued for 50 miles until I joined the RV 17.  This is the road we will be following for the next 400 or so miles to Bodo and is known as the the Kystriksveien (see day 55).

The day didn't run smoothly for Jacqui and Ivan who had to negotiate lengthy roadworks on the E6, a complex route around Trondheim, and a frustratingly thwarted attempt to top up Ivan's LPG tank.  She only arrived at our site for the evening shortly before me and was a little frazzled. Equilibrium was soon restored thanks to our beautiful location, and a glass of cold beer.

We are at Holmset Camping, a rather dull name for a lovely place beside a tidal river.

Whilst sitting beside the river enjoying our beer we were joined by the campsite owner who happened to mention that 3 brown bears had been seen, this morning, around a rubbish skip 2 km away.  The last sighting in this area was 15 years ago.  Hopefully tonight's fillet steak won't attract any unwanted attention!
