The Kystriksveien living up to its billing and a ferry time trial

28th May 2018

70 miles of cycling, 3 ferry journeys, and a big dollop of coastal Norway.  We wouldn't argue against Krystriksveien being "The most beautiful journey in the world"

There is a cycling discipline known as a "time trial".  Riders set off at one minute intervals over a set course, the fastest rider wins.  The classic time trial distance is ten miles and the historical benchmark has been to complete this distance in under 30 minutes (20 mph average), something known as "evens".  The highlight of today's ride, other than the scenery, was realising I could make the 2.10 Forvik - Tjotta ferry if I rode the 10 mile distance at "evens".  My legs were commanded to work harder and they actually responded, completing the distance in 28 minutes.  Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room for us on the ferry so we had to wait another 2 hours anyway!

We eventually arrived at Offersoy Camping well after 6.00pm, and what a site!  We have our own 2 level patio with direct access to the beach and a glorious view across the water to the "Seven Sisters" chain of mountains.  It wouldn't be right to only stay for one night so tomorrow is a rest day.

  1. A great time over ten miles Martin :) . I managed a smidgen under 30 minutes visiting my parents 9.95 miles away so happy with that. Broke my record home from work last week, 15.8 miles in 50 minutes and 3 seconds (an 18.9mph average).
Amazing scenery again, you would make a great ambassador for Norway's tourism trade :)

  2. Thanks Kevin, 19mph has to be the target for you now then. It is hard to maintain any sort of cycling rhythm here because you just want to stop and take photos all the time!
